According to an article by Finanztip.de, rising energy costs are also making heating with gas increasingly expensive. Three key reasons are:

  1. Empty gas storage tanks and high demand
According to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE)*1 , gas storage levels in Germany are currently just under 30% (in comparison: a year ago, the figure was 65 %). This is leading to increased demand and short-term price spikes. Many long-term tariffs with a price guarantee are already significantly more expensive.
  2. Rising CO₂ costs
The CO₂ price for fossil fuels could rise significantly in the coming years. The CO₂ tax will already account for around 10% of the gas price in 2025. From 2027, the price will be freely traded on the exchange - the Ariadne research project expects the current price of €55/tonne*2 to double, which will cause heating costs to rise further.
  3. Exploding grid fees
Grid fees have already risen by 44% since 2022. According to Agora Energiewende, grid fees could increase 16-fold by 2045 (p. 47 PDF) . This would quadruple the price of gas to 47 ct/kWh, which would mean heating costs of € 7,050 per year or € 590 per month for a typical consumption of 15,000 kWh/year.

Attractive subsidies for energy-efficient system solutions help to ensure that investments pay for themselves even faster.

Outdoor Units Now Even Quieter

By improving the interaction between the compressor and fan, the noise emission of the Vitocal 250-A heat pumps has been reduced by up to 5 dB(A) to 49 dB(A), Type A 10, in accordance with ErP regulations. The noise emission of the Vitocal 150-A heat pumps has been reduced by up to 3 dB(A) to 53 dB(A), Type 10, and in low-noise operation, even by 5 dB(A) to 54 dB(A), Type A 10. This now means that the noise level limit according to the TA Lärm regulation during nighttime operation, when positioned in front of a house wall, is significantly undercut at a distance of 5 meters, compared to the original 9 meters.

High Flexibility with New Indoor Units

The new indoor units offer high flexibility and meet the requirements of any need. The professional installer selects the appropriate indoor unit for the installation, based on the requirements of the heating system on site. Each outdoor unit (ODU) is thus always compatible with the new indoor units (IDU). This high flexibility is especially beneficial during the planning and implementation of the system.

Vitocal IDU-A

The Vitocal IDU-A is a wall-mounted indoor unit for a single heating circuit (1C), while the variant with two heating circuits (2C) remains available in its previous design.

Vitocal IDU-A Compact

The Vitocal IDU-A Compact is a floor-standing indoor unit with an integrated storage water heater for a single heating circuit.

Vitocal IDU-AH

The Vitocal IDU-AH is a hybrid version for the Vitocal 250-A up to 18.5 kW and now also for the Vitocal 150-A outdoor unit from 2.3 to 13.4 kW.

Vitocal IDU-A Modular

The cost-effective version without an integrated defrost buffer and expansion vessel. This version is particularly recommended for systems with multiple heating circuits and a separate heating water buffer storage or for fresh water systems.

Significantly Shorter Installation Times

Another advantage of the new indoor units is the significantly shorter installation times. The installer benefits from an optimized electrical connection area with good accessibility in the upper part of the IDU, where all electrical connections are routed. Lever clamps simplify the connection of electrical cables. All circuit boards are housed in a swiveling box, which allows easy access to the hydraulics and improves serviceability. Particularly time-saving during installation is the new hydraulic interface: compression fittings are no longer required, and hydraulic connections and valves are easily accessible.

Improved Ventilation of the Indoor Unit

The improved ventilation of the indoor unit also contributes to efficiency. A new vent valve on the defrost buffer ensures that air can escape at the highest point, which significantly shortens the venting time of the system. These numerous innovations not only reduce installation time but also make maintenance of the new indoor units easier. Naturally, the Viessmann One Base platform, through which the heat pumps can be conveniently and securely commissioned via the ViGuide Mobile App, is also included.

Heat Pump Protect – Comprehensive Protection for the Outdoor Unit

In addition, Viessmann offers Heat Pump Protect, a comprehensive protection for the outdoor unit. This product from ARAG Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG, exclusive to Viessmann customers, protects against a variety of risks. Detailed information is available at www.peccon.de/waermepumpen.

Vitocal 060-A: Efficient Hot Water Heat Pump for New Buildings and Renovations

The Vitocal 060-A hot water heat pump is an ideal solution for new buildings and the renovation of existing buildings. It is particularly suitable for commercial applications where indoor air needs to be cooled for the storage of food and beverages.

The Vitocal 060-A extracts heat from the room in which it is installed during its air circulation operation. The compressor raises the drinking water temperature in the storage tank to up to 62 °C. At the same time, moisture is extracted from the indoor air to protect the building structure. Alternatively, the heat contained in the outdoor air can be used at temperatures down to –5 °C. Using an adapter and air ducts, the heat pump can easily be adapted, which is particularly important in insulated new buildings to prevent excessive cooling of the building.

The settings of the regulation with various operating programs can be easily adjusted via the integrated control panel to meet the operator's individual needs.

The hot water heat pump is delivered ready for operation. The compact device is equipped with all components for efficient drinking water heating. The heat pump module, hot water storage tank, and control system are housed in a space-saving case. Two versions are available: as a stand-alone device (Type T0E-R290, 178 l and 254 l) or for connecting an external heat generator (Type T0S-R290, 251 l). Both heat pumps can be powered by electricity from their own photovoltaic system. An electric heating element is also available, which can also be powered by PV electricity.

Awarded the iF Design Award 2025

The Vitocal 060-A was awarded the IF Design Award 2025 in the categories of products and home technology. In the jury's reasoning, it is said: "The clear, geometric design, which conceals the electrical and hydraulic connections, communicates the quality and efficiency of the device."

Vitocharge VX3: Innovative Energy Storage for the Highest Demands

The Vitocharge VX3 energy storage system is proven and secure. Its strength lies in its modular construction with graded power classes and a comprehensive safety concept.

Vitocharge VX3 – Cascadable up to 75 kWh

With the new cascading functionality, the Vitocharge VX3 is now also available for cascading applications with up to five devices. The resulting high storage capacity of 75 kWh (5 x 15 kWh) is aimed primarily at applications with higher energy requirements – such as large single-family and multi-family houses as well as smaller commercial applications (light commercial) like supermarkets or workshops. New cascading functionality is also available for the smaller power class (4.6 kVA) of the Vitocharge VX3.

Tenant Electricity Model with high Autonomy

For investors in the housing industry, the Vitocharge VX3 cascade is an attractive renewable energy system for tenant electricity models. The residents benefit from a high degree of autonomy by generating their own electricity via photovoltaic systems. This can then be scaled to provide up to 40 kVA of performance and 75 kWh of capacity.

Another highlight is the flexible installation options. The components can be installed either wall-mounted or floor-standing (optional floor bracket). From now on, flexible installation over corners or horizontally is also possible – allowing the system to optimally adapt to on-site conditions.

Easy Commissioning with the ViGuide Mobile App

The guided commissioning process involves just a few clicks in the ViGuide Mobile App. It doesn't matter whether a single device, a Vitocharge cascade, or additional components such as a Vitocal heat pump are being set up – everything is handled within a single app with just a few steps. No switching to another application is necessary.

Wallbox Solutions for Efficient Charging and Energy Management

The Viessmann Charging Station reliably meets the requirements for efficient operation. It offers a power output of up to 22 kW (3-phase) with the Type 2 charging cable (7 meters). A MID meter, cable hanger, and secure RFID authorization for multiple users simplify handling. The ViCare app provides full transparency about the charging process and charging autonomy. The commissioning of the Wallbox is conveniently carried out via ViGuide.

Surplus Charging with PV and Energy Storage

A standout feature of the Viessmann Wallbox is the ability to surplus charge with photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems. With Viessmann One Base, the Wallbox is integrated into the energy management system, just like the optional Vitocharge VX3 storage. This integration enables solar charging with surplus energy from your own PV system using the "Green Charging" function. The intelligent control adjusts the charging process efficiently to match the available PV power.

Fast-Charging Mode

The vehicle is charged with PV electricity from the own production and additionally with grid power. The "Fast-Charging" mode allows rapid charging with a maximum of 22 kW.

High Operational Safety with Blackout Protection

Another advantage is the high operational safety with blackout protection. The energy management system checks the maximum power of the building connection and automatically adjusts the charging power when multiple consumers are operating. The "Blackout Protection" ensures operational safety while maximizing available charging power.

Simplified electrical connection through modular switchboard system

With the standalone switchboard for connecting Vitocal heat pumps, Viessmann fills a real market gap. Whereas electricians previously had to source the necessary materials and wire them according to the circuit diagram, the Vitocal switchboard offers a completely pre-wired component. The modular switchboard system is suitable for standardized electrical distribution in new and prefabricated house construction, as well as for modernizations.

Everything in one box

The Vitocal switchboard contains all the necessary line and residual current circuit breakers (RCD) for currents up to 16 A, terminal blocks, an energy meter E380, and a 230 V and 400 V socket. For outdoor units with 10 to 13 kW of power that are connected via 230 V, a 20 A protection is required.

Expandable for Vitocharge and Charging Station

Depending on which basic model of the switchboard – Vitocal or Vitocharge – is installed for primary use, the modular concept allows for expansion with additional, also pre-wired modules. Thus, the two basic models can be supplemented with the "Vitocal Expansion" or "Vitocharge Expansion." Additionally, an "Expansion Wallbox" is available.

The connection between the switchboard and the main distribution is sufficient. No changes are necessary. The specialist partner saves time, and the user saves costs that would otherwise be spent on a complex electrical installation. In general, the regulations according to VDE and the grid operator must be followed.
