May 2, 2023

In order to turn the urgently needed energy transition into a reality and achieve the climate targets we have made a commitment to, it is crucial that we start moving away from fossil fuel and, instead, turn to renewable energy in commercial, industrial and municipal energy systems. At the same time, reliability and profitability are particularly important in these areas of application. Viessmann boasts long-standing and extensive experience in the use of  heat pumps  in large-scale national and international projects, and is now expanding its Integrated Solution Offering to feature innovative products.

Vitocal 200-A Pro: air/water heat pump for smaller commercial applications

The new Vitocal 200-A Pro air/water heat pump is designed for large residential complexes, office buildings and commercial premises with heating loads of up to 128 kW. It is also suitable for modernization projects with flow temperatures of up to 65 °C. The system can also be used for efficient building cooling (active cooling) and for DHW generation.

High flow temperatures with optimum coefficients of performance at the same time

Available in three types, the system offers a flexible heating and cooling solution that can be adapted to make it the perfect fit for the relevant requirements. Rated outputs of 32, 64 and 128 kW, or cooling output of 34, 69 and 139 kW, allow the system to be adapted to make it the perfect match for the customer’s needs. The system can be cascaded if a greater output is required. Highly efficient scroll compressors with multi-stage output matching, electronic expansion valves and the tried-and-tested enhanced vapor injection ensure low consumption and the highest possible coefficients of performance.

Enhanced vapor injection, also known as EVI, involves a certain quantity of refrigerant being channeled off behind the condenser, evaporated in an additional heat exchanger and then injected directly into the compression process. This means that, even when outside temperatures are low, higher flow temperatures are achieved than with conventional heat pumps, with the best possible coefficients of performance (COP) at the same time.

System control with Vitocontrol 200-M

Vitocal 200-A Pro can be connected to the tried-and-tested  Vitocontrol 200-M  – a modular, powerful system control unit with a graphical user interface – using an optional ModBus. The system control unit can be adapted to suit the customer’s specific requirements and shows clear performance and consumption data for the heat pumps and the energy system as a whole on the display.

PEWO Titan HT: booster heat pump for centralized DHW generation

DHW generation also plays an increasingly important role in saving energy. This is why Viessmann’s subsidiary  PEWO  has designed the Titan HT booster heat pump for efficient centralized DHW generation in large residential complexes and commercial buildings.

The booster heat pump can use external heat sources

An external heat source, for example, a low-temperature (LT) buffer cylinder with a heat pump or an LT network, serves as the basis. Both operate at a low flow temperature of approx. 35 °C for panel heating. This is sufficient to increase the water temperature to up to 65 °C using a downstream booster heat pump.

The flow temperature can be increased to 75 °C for thermodynamic disinfection via a fresh water station.

Cascade to boost output

The compact Titan HT water/water heat pump operates in an output range from 12 to 29 kW. For both source and heating water, it requires only one globe valve and a common circulation pump. Several systems can be cascaded to boost output.

The HT buffer cylinder balances out consumption peaks

As hot water requirements fluctuate throughout the day, a(n) (optional) high-temperature (HT) buffer cylinder balances out consumption peaks. It can be fitted with an electric heating rod (9 kW). Up to 2 HT buffer cylinders can be used in the system.

Everything from a single source: system solution in an all-in-one package

The system solution for centralized DHW generation is designed for use in residential buildings comprising up to 100 units and in commercial buildings. In the factory-configured packages, the Titan HT heat pump, together with the  pewoAqua S  fresh water station, ensure demand-oriented DHW generation in continuous flow mode. The station is available with tap capacities from 10 to 101 l/min. The smooth operation of all system components is controlled centrally via the pewoAqua S.

Benefits for trade partners

  • Addition of a renewable energy system as a durable and cost-cutting solution for central DHW generation in the building sector (for both new and existing buildings)

  • Helps to effectively reduce CO2 when generating heat in large residential complexes or commercial buildings if electricity from renewable sources can be used
  • Tried-and-tested booster heat pump technology with hot water expertise from Viessmann’s subsidiary PEWO

Benefits for users

  • Consistently high hot water output at 60 °C and high levels of efficiency (COP of up to 5.8) compared with electrical reheating using an electric heating rod

  • Saves energy costs by preventing high rated electrical output
  • Independent of the number of sunshine hours compared to a photovoltaic system in combination with an electric heating rod

Technical specifications

  • Output: 12 to 29 kW (can be cascaded to increase output)

  • Maximum flow temperature: 75 °C (for disinfection)
  • Tap capacity: 10 to 101 l/min (with pewoAqua S)
