Previously, when I was an athlete, it was Gunde Svan, a Swedish cross-country skier. Nowadays my role models are people who are committed to social projects.

I am very concerned about the protection of animals. I also try to be as environmentally conscious as possible and reduce my ecological footprint. I am, of course, also absolutely devoted to my family.

Career
Tobias gathered early successes on a national youth and junior level. Between 1993 and 1996, he became German junior champion six times. After graduating from the Berchtesgaden Ski School in 1996, he joins the sports training group of the German Armed Forces. In the same year, Tobias participates for the first time in an international competition – the Junior World Cup in Asiago. Two years later he competes in the World Cup for the first time. In the 2001/02 season, he makes his sports breakthrough, with his first podium finish in the individual World Cup in Ramsau. He also wins bronze at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. In 2004, Tobias wins his first World Cup in Falun. In the 2005/06 season, he secures the overall World Cup victory. One year later Tobias becomes the first ever winner of the Tour de Ski. At the Olympic Games in 2006 in Turin and in 2010 in Vancouver, Tobias wins another three medals: two silver and one bronze. At the World Cups from 2005 to 2011 he also wins a total of six medals: four silver and two bronze. Tobias ends his career in 2014 with the 50 km race in Oslo. Today he continues to be a brand ambassador for Viessmann.
Successful German Junior Championships
Tobias becomes German junior champion a total of six times between 1993 and 1996.
First World Cup entry
Tobias is granted his first World Cup entry in 1998 and takes 22nd place in sprint in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
German champion
In 1998, Tobias becomes German champion at the senior level for the first time with the men’s relay team.
First World Cup victory
Tobias claims his first World Cup victory in the sprint relay in the World Cup in Asiago.
Bronze at the Olympics
Tobias secures his first-ever podium finish in an individual race in 2001, taking third place in pursuit in Ramsau. He wins bronze in the relay competition at his first Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Three-time German champion
Tobias wins three disciplines at the German Championships, making him a three-time German champion.
World Cup victories
Tobias makes it to the very top of the podium three times this season. He wins the relay races in the World Cup in Beitostølen and Otepää and takes first place in the 30 km pursuit race in the World Cup in Falun.
First World Cup victory in individual and a vice world champion title
Tobias wins the pursuit competition at the World Cup in Falun, making it to the top of the podium on his own for the first time. He becomes vice world champion with the German men’s relay team in Oberstdorf in 2005.
Five World Cup victories, champion in the World Cup overall ranking and Olympic medals
This season, Tobias secures eight podium finishes, including five World Cup victories. He wins the bronze medal in the 15 km classic and the silver medal with the relay team at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin. As the grand finale, Tobias wins the World Cup overall ranking at the end of the season.
Tour de Ski champion, World Cup overall winner and vice world champion
As in the previous season, Tobias secures eight podium finishes in the World Cup, including four victories. He also wins the first-ever Tour de Ski overall ranking. He clinches the silver medal in pursuit and the bronze medal in the 15 km freestyle at the World Championships in Sapporo. He finishes first again in the overall World Cup at the end of the season.
Vice world champion at the Military World Championship
Tobias secures the silver medal in the individual and team competitions at the Military World Championship in Hochfilzen/Fieberbrunn.
An impressive three medals at the World Championships in Liberec
Tobias wins silver in the team sprint and relay competitions and secures the bronze medal in the 50 km freestyle at the World Championships in Liberec.
Olympic silver
As in the previous year, Tobias has to withdraw from the Tour de Ski due to illness. Despite unremarkable performance in the World Cup, he still qualifies for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, ultimately winning the silver medal in the 15 km freestyle.
Bronze medal at the Nordic World Ski championship
In 2011, Tobias wins his last international medal at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo: He takes third place in the relay and wins bronze.
Podium finish in the World Cup
This season, Tobias makes it into the top 10 three times and takes third place in mass start in the World Cup in Rybinsk, his best result of the season.
A season of ups and downs
Tobias secures multiple top 10 placements and takes 14th place in the overall World Cup at the end of the season.
End of his career
Tobias competes in the Olympic Games again in Sochi, but unfortunately does not win any medals. He ends his career with the 50 km race in Oslo in 2014. He has been a brand ambassador for the company ever since.
